Windows 7-Two Things To Do Immediately!

by admin on December 30, 2010

When windows starts for the first time, you are given the option to set up windows updates and activate whatever antivirus that was bundled with your purchase.

If you blew by those two without enabling them you should do that as soon as possible, like maybe now would be a good time.

The Anti Virus activation is simple, a pop up screen will keep nagging you (way worse than your Mother would.) until you either activate the trial period or uninstall it.

I can’t stress strongly enough how important it is that you activate that Anti-Virus software. It is your first and for now only line of defense against all the bad things that can happen to you computer once you go online. Those few clicks could save you hundreds of dollars in repairs and hours of frustration.

Allowing Windows update to run automatically is the second most important thing that you can do to protect your computer. As Microsoft finds glitches that can cause problems or vulnerabilities that the bad guys can use to break into your computer, they issue patches or updates to head off those problems.

Don’t be surprised to see twenty plus updates a day.

If you didn’t enable updates during setup, you can do it now by clicking start>all programs>windows update, on the update screen choose settings, select “install updates automatically.” Install new updates “Every Day” then choose a time when your computer will be turned on.
